Summer Tips
It’s a hot summer out there! So, please keep cool, well hydrated, curious and playful to bring a joyful watery balance to the fiery heat and intensity.
Tips for summer balance:
Get outside in the early morning, catch the sunrise, feel the dew, breathe in the cooler, fresh air.
Hydrate well! This includes water and electrolytes. I am enjoying the LMNT electrolytes after my climbing or paddling playtimes. I choose the unflavored for post-exercise and heat, but the flavored ones dissolve easily in water and make great popsicles to help keep both the adults and kiddos hydrated.
Take a cool bath in the evening before bed.
Eat cool, watery foods: Some of the ones I’ve been enjoying include:
Watermelon, berries, cherries, stone fruits, pomegranate
Microgreens, cucumber, zucchini, sweet potato, arugula, lettuce, artichoke, broccoli and peas
Oats and buckwheat
Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds
I've been enjoying a morning bowl of buckwheat groats, sliced nectarine, blueberries, coconut flakes, chia seeds and walnuts.
And an afternoon bowl of chopped and sauteed sweet potato, avocado, microgreens (if you are local to San Diego - check out Meyer Micros), fresh tomato, sprouted pumpkin seeds, beet and cabbage sauerkraut, with olive oil and sea salt. Sometimes I add an egg or some sliced turkey or sardines or salmon.
Plus a cup of sun tea:
1 Tbsp dried hibiscus
1 Tbsp dried or fresh orange peel
1/4 cup dried passionflower leaf
1/4 cup dried holy basil (tulsi)
1/4 cup dried lemon balm
1 Tbsp mint
Place the herbs in 1 gallon water in a glass container and let sit in the sun for several hours.
Strain and store in the refrigerator.
Drink cool, over ice or mixed with sparkling water
Happy Summer Friends. I look forward to seeing you and working with you throughout the season.
